"God purposefully intertwines our lives with others for good." On April 16, 2008, I called Mary Lou Faulkenberry, owner of Assist at Home Senior Care" to enroll Mama (Minnie -- now with Jesus) as a client. Little did I know how that encounter would forever change my life. I was very impressed with how thorough Mary Lou was. She was very professional, yet caring. I trusted her.
For almost two years an "Assist Angel" (my name for her caregivers) would come on Fridays to take Mama to her hair appointment and out to lunch. She looked forward to those outings.
On March 19, 2010, I called in Hospice as Mama's congestive heart failure had worsened. For the next two weeks the "Assist Angels" came to care of Mama .... and reach out to me. Each lady was different, but ALL were professional, dependable, compassionate AND they had a heart -- something you can't teach. Each lady had experienced dying and death, Alzheimer's and other crisis in their personal lives. They knew how a care giver felt.
Care giving is one of the most difficult tasks one is given in life, especially in the presence of dying. Each lady came into my life as a stranger. But when Mama died, they became a part of my heart. I never could have made it through the most "horrific" time of my life without the "Assist Angels."
I will forever be their #1 fan. They are the "top of the line caregivers!" MAU, Sky Valley, Georgia
G.G. from Atlanta, Georgia wrote: "When my mother and stepfather were no longer able to drive, their world fell apart. Assist at Home Senior Care was there for them. They made it possible for my parents to stay in their home and maintain the independence that they so cherished. They provided meals, ran errands and helped organize my parent's lives making sure they had access to everything they needed and did so in such a way that my parents still felt that they themselves were in control. The caregivers working for the service were kind, respectful and provided emotional support for the whole family during some very stressful times."
D. F. from Chesapeake, Va. said: "In 2008, we realized that Dad was having difficulties living on his own. A family friend referred me to Assist at Home Senior Care. They were able to come to his home, first for 4 hours as day, then as the situation required they were there for us round the clock while assisted living was arranged. And now that he is in an assisted care facility, they still go once a week to visit with him and report back to me by email.....I trusted Assist at Home from the very first day, and would highly recommend them to any family who needs caregiver help. They are perfectly reliable and so obviously care about their clients and the families."
"I wanted to write to thank you for the excellent care of my husband for the past three years while he was sick. Your care made it possible for me to leave the house for my own pleasure so that my life continued in a somewhat normal way. I was advised by many professionals that very often the caregiver dies before the patient, so I was aware I had to take care of myself while still taking care of my husband and Assist At Home made that possible. Again, thank you for your excellent care of my husband and also for giving me a life through those difficult days." P.P., Sky Valley, Ga.
M.C., Clayton, Ga. has this to say: "I was very fortunate to have Assist at Home send a caregiver to help me when I had my back operation in 2006. We are blessed to have you, Mary Lou, and your wonderful dedicated staff in our community. You all do an outstanding job and I would recommend that anyone who needs help at home should contact you for assistance."
P.N., Douglasville, Ga. wrote: "Assist At Home was an answer to prayer for our family. My mother was living alone and I lived 3 hours away. It was becoming clear that it was no longer safe for her to drive. She was insistent on remaining independent and in her home, but I knew she needed a responsible adult to drive her to the store and medical appointments. She was resistance to any help at first, but Assist at Home won her over in a flash. They took it upon themselves to check in on her and were so kind to keep me abreast of issues that needed my attention. Their services made it possible for her to live in her home far longer than she could have without their excellent care."
